Olympic Craft: Macaroni Medals

By Michelle Melnik; Macaroni Kid Deerfield/Greenfield January 22, 2014
The opening ceremony for the 2014 Sochi XXII Olympic Winter Games will be held on February 7, 2014. Get your family into the Olympic spirit now by creating Macaroni Medals to wear as you cheer for your favorite athletes.

These medals were made with only a few supplies:
  • Cardboard (check your recycling bin!)
  • Pasta (macaroni or any other shape you have available!)
  • Glitter glue in gold and silver
  • Paintbrush (optional)
  • Ribbon
Use the cap from an empty jar or a glass to trace a circle onto the cardboard. Cut out the circle and set aside.

Cover your pasta in glitter glue. You can place a pool of glitter glue on a piece of paper  or small tray and simply roll the pasta in it with your fingers. If this sounds too messy, kids can also use a paintbrush.

Add some glitter glue to the cardboard circle, then press the pasta onto the cardboard circle. Leave a small space at the top to punch a hole for your ribbon.

Once dry, use a hole punch and make a hole in the top of your medal and add your ribbon.

Wear your medal with pride!
