Bounty is honoring #Bringit Moms of the US Olympics Hockey Team

January 10, 2014

Yes I sure did keep my son home on the coldest day ever, in fear of frostbite on his cutest little toes, and fingers.  However I was eager to rush out the door myself to interview Olympic Gold Medalist Julie Chu, of the Women’s Hockey Team and her mom at the Andaz Kitchen.  Within days they will be ready to head on out to compete in the Olympics 2014 in Sochi.  Thanks to Bounty I was given the opportunity to interview Julie and her mom, as well as have dinner with some of the other Hockey moms from the team, courtesy of Bounty.

Julie, who started as a figure skater, was motivated after seeing a poster that said Girls play hockey too!  Luckily Miriam, Julie’s mom felt girls should be given the opportunity to do anything they want.  Therefore Miriam marched Julie into a pro shop got her suited and signed up for her first clinic.

Julie said girls should not be discouraged in participating in a male driven sport, career etc.  Instead she encourages girls to give it a try if it is something that resonates with them and usually amazing things will happen from that.  Remember, Julie started at a time where girls didn’t play hockey and she gave it a shot and her parents were open minded enough to allow her the opportunity and look how successful she has become.

Very often you will hear of the athletes journey to the Olympics however after meeting Julie, her mom Miriam and the other team moms I realized it really is the families journey to the Olympics.   Rarely do you hear of the fees the families endured to ensure their children played the sport they loved, or the long rides across the country to travel from one competition to the next.  The toll it takes on ones parents, and siblings is almost taboo, I myself have never thought of it.  Leave it to Bounty, as well as other Procter & Gamble products to remind us it is about the family team first.

These moms are just as passionate, as their daughters, and they are fortunate to be partnered with Bounty.  It is Bounty that has provided the opportunity to acknowledge all these amazing bring it moms because they allowed their kids to be themselves.  To run around their houses crazily which often had frequent messes, and spills but it never phased them and they were given the opportunity to be at home and grow up to enjoy life while actively living their dreams.

I so often tell JD no you can not play ball in the house, lets go outside to practice your karate, and for Gia she draws on everything!!  After speaking with the moms and Julie herself, I wonder why? Why am I discouraging my little people from playing in the house?  For fear of a spill, or possibly something breaking?  Isn’t that what life is about?  Isn’t every spill, or mess easily cleaned up?   Especially if you are a Bounty home, one sheet can do wonders on cleaning any spill, believe me I know first hand.  We spill daily, as my little people become more independent.

So the next time a spill or mess occurs remember a mess can be cleaned up, especially when you are building a great person.  Become part of the #BringIt moms campaign and share your messy in home training moments via social media.  For every story shared with @Bounty using #Bringit, Bounty will donate one dollar to the P&G Team USA Youth Sports Fund to help other aspiring athletees pursuer their Olympic dreams!  Joinin on the conversation via Facebook or Twitter.

Don’t forget to watch the Winter Olympics, which begins February 6th in Sochi, Russia.
