Last year we attended the opening night of the Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam at Nassau Coliseum. Not to sound naïve but I truly had no idea that these trucks compete all over the country, in the hopes they qualify for Nationals in Las Vegas, NV. If you too are not in the know, it is similar to rooting for your favorite sporting team, each truck has a unique fan base! Monster Jam itself contains 3 fascinating elements, the pit party which we certainly attended. My son immediately made a connection to Grave Digger and his buddy cheered on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Truck. The pit party allowed us the opportunity for an up close encounter with enormous trucks and they even had a meet and greet with the drivers. Next up is the racing, the trucks themselves are built for short, high-powered bursts of speed, monster trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower and are capable of speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. The last and final act is the freestyle, which is very entertaining to watch. 

The event will feature some of the most popular monster trucks in the circuit, including the legendary Grave Digger, Monster Mutt, Advanced Auto Parts Grinder, El Toro Loco, Bounty Hunter, Scarlet Bandit, Aftershock and more.

Stay tuned, as JD and I will be interviewing Bill Braukmann, who maintains his career as a professional driver all while traveling with his family.  Honestly I am not sure how he manages when it is sometimes hard to survive the supermarket with two little ones!
